Premier League For the second week in succession a strong wind down the pitch provided difficult conditions for both teams, and again it played part as Borough fell to their third successive league defeat. With the wind in their favour Borough started he first half brightly and on 10 minutes a through pass sent Gary Williams clear but a visiting defender got back quickly and got a toe to the ball to deny the shot. Two minutes later Dan Young made a strong run from the right into the area, but he was unable to find the space to get a shot in and the ball was cleared. Sturminster though carved out a chance on 13 minutes as Stuart Frear ran onto a through ball, but his final shot went wide. However Borough still had the better chances and on 17 minutes James Stickland latched onto a defensive clearance but blazed his shot over while three minutes later a similar chance fell to Dillon Hooper but again the shot was off target. Borough's best chance of the half was on 36 minutes as Williams got on the end of the corner and his low shot was scrambled clear by Stur keeper Garfield Charles and before the break Steve Rockingham saw his shot from a long throw go over. Half Time 0-0 With the conditions now favouring them, the Cherries pushed forward from kick off and five minutes they tested Doug Shear with a free kick just outside the area which the Borough keeper palmed away at full stretch. However a minute later Borough were undone by an inswinging corner into a packed area and Dan Cockwell got the last touch as it ended up in the back of the net. Borough came close to levelling as Hooper latched on to a through ball and knocked the ball past the advancing Charles, but a visiting defender won the sprint for the loose ball to clear. However the Cherries doubled their lead in bizarre fashion on 76 minutes as defender Mark Cooper cleared the ball from the halfway line and the ball bounced high over Shear and into the net. Borough pushed forward looking for a way back and pulled a goal back on 85 minutes when Andy Barham sent a free kick into the area and John Bates saw his shot cannon off the post but Simon Linard was on hand to bury the rebound. However despite further pressure from the Hornets the visitors defence held firm in the final minutes leaving Borough still looking for heir first home win of the year. |
