Match Abandoned after 59 minutes Dorset
Premier League Borough and Sturminster will have to meet again at Turlin Moor after the game was abandoned by the referee just before the hour mark following an injury sustained by the visiting goalkeeper, Garfield Charles which required the precautionary decision not to move him without the aid of paramedics. Borough carved out an early chance for Lee Thomas who with his back to goal attempted an overhead kick which bounced just wide. On 16 minutes Paul Harding hit a well struck shot from 25 yards out but Charles was well placed to collect. However a minute later the Cherries took the lead when Adam Nash could only palm away a right wing cross and James Eckless was first to the loose ball to hammer it home. Nash made amends on 24 minutes as a through ball down the right opened up the Borough defence but the Borough gloveman was out of his area quickly to dispossess the visiting forward. On 26 minutes Sean Hebdon came close to bringing Borough level as his header from a free kick went just the wrong side of the post and two minutes later Ross Mills headed on a deep cross from Darren Rudd into the path of Thomas but his final shot went over. Further Borough pressure saw Thomas use his speed to break clear down the right and his low shot beat the keeper but again went the wrong side of the upright. Borough were to rue their missed chances on 44 minutes when a Cherries free kick from wide on the right picked out Simon Freak unmarked at the far post to head home. Just before the break Dylan Hooper did well to get to the by-line before crossing to Mills whose shot on the turn narrowly cleared the bar. Half Time 0-2 Borough came out in the second half and looked more purposeful with Thomas and Mills both making inroads into the visiting defence. And on 59 minutes Thomas battled down the right before pulling the ball back to Mills whose shot was blocked by the keeper but Hooper reacted first to slot home the rebound. However Charles stayed down after landing awkwardly in attempting to deny the goal and when it became clear he had sustained a neck injury and therefore should not be moved, the referee correctly concluded that treatment would be lengthy and abandoned the game as there was little chance it could be completed in the remaining daylight. |
