Premier League Despite a number of chances to seal victory, Borough were unable to build on their first half lead at Days Park and they were punished in the last minute of normal time as former Hornets striker Anthony Warrington earned the Swans a share of the points. Borough had the best of the early chances and on seven minutes they broke down the right and the resulting cross alluded the players in the box before being sent back into the area from the left, but Swans keeper Nick Taylor got down well to claim the ball. The Swans carved out a chance on 13 minutes with Tim Brown sent through on goal but his final shot went over the bar. It was Borough though who took the lead on 16 minutes when a high ball bounced over a static Swanage defence allowing James Stickland to run through and lob the advancing Taylor. Within a minute Borough repeated the same move over the top of the Swans defence but this time with Taylor rooted to the spot the final shot went over. Borough had to soak up some Swans pressure but looked dangerous on the break and on 28 minutes carved out some space on he right, but the final shot went wide. Borough continued to pressure the Swans but were forced to shoot from distance until and then another long ball over the top saw four Borough forwards in a position to strike, but the final header was straight at Taylor. Later a Borough free kick was well saved from Taylor. In the final minutes of the half Swanage began to gain the upper hand and Doug Shear did well to block a curling drive from Harrop and he sustained an injury as he denied a chance from the rebound. Half Time 0-1 Swanage continued to take the initiative after the break and Shear was again in the wars early in the second half after a clash with Landers saw him receiving lengthy treatment. On 55 minutes a Warrington shot from the edge of the area just cleared the bar. Three minutes later a cross from Warrington picked out Harrop unmarked, but his glancing header went wide. Borough broke through the Swanage offside trap on 59 minutes, with the final ball falling to Lee Thomas whose shot went wide. Three minutes later Shear did well to save a high bouncing shot with Harrop bearing down and later Warrington swung over a free kick which Shear was unable to hold but the ball was cleared to safety. On 72 minutes the Borough defence cleared a long ball from Warrington for a corner which was quickly whipped into the area which resulted in the ball being hacked off the line after a mass scramble. Five minutes later Shear made a fine block to deny a shot on the volley from Sam Beale, but Borough had the chance to make the game safe a minute later when Stickland sprung the offside trap to break through but Taylor came out to block with his legs. The game continued with Borough soaking up the majority of pressure, while looking dangerous on the break, but just as the Hornets looked to have held off their hosts Anthony Warrington picked up the ball 35 yards from goal and hit a right foot strike which arched over Shear and into his top left hand corner. In injury time Borough survived a shot from Rowan Robinson which forced a fine save from Shear to keep the scores level. Report courtesy of the Swanage Website |
