Poole Borough (1) 1, Swanage Town & Herston (1) 1. Dorset Premier League Saturday 19th August 2006 Borough Scorer: Paul Harding 25. Borough and Swanage shared the points in the season's opener at Turlin Moor. Neither team created many clear cut scoring opportunities, most of the chances coming from set pieces. Four players, Paul Hubbard, Simon Linard, Ricky Mee and James Stickland made their competitve debuts for Borough while Paul Harding, Kieran Campbell and Steve Russell all returned to the Hornets colours. An early chance fell to Borough when a long ball set up a chase between Ricky Mee and Swans keeper Hollywood and Mee got to the ball first but his lob over the advancing keeper was not on target. Swanage hit back and Warrington's shot was deflected for a corner. Borough took the lead on 25 minutes when a pass from Paul Harding found Darren Rudd who cut inside and was fouled on the edge of the area. Harding stepped up and hit the free kick over the wall and into the net off a post, giving Hollywood no chance. James Stickland then went close to increasing Borough's lead but his shot hit the keeper's legs. Five minutes before the break Swanage were awarded a penalty after Harrop was brought down and he scored from the spot with a low shot under Paul Hubbard. Half Time 1-1 Borough brought on Dan Young for Dan Herrington for the second half and the youngster made an immediate impression with a strong run into the Swanage area before he was dispossessed. Shaun Hebdon went close with a header from a Harding free-kick and then another Harding kick was turned away for a corner. Hollywood was fortunate when his clearance hit Kieran Campbell in the face but the rebound went wide of the post and the Borough striker had to receive treatment. Harrop and Warrington combined well for Swanage, but Hubbard was quickly out to challenge. Borough brought on Steve Russell for Mee for the last twenty minutes but neither side could force a winner. |
