Dorset Premier League Cup
Saturday 17th February 2007

Borough's Premier League Cup run ended at the quarter-final stage with the sides separated by a goal direct from a corner giving the Swans victory in an entertaining encounter at Turlin Moor.

Dillon Hppper carved out a chance for Borough within the first minute but Nick Taylor in the visiting goal was able to collect the final shot, and Taylor was in action again on seven minutes, to deny a curling free-kick from Paul Harding.

Swanage through came close two minutes later when a corner came out to Harrop on the edge of the area, who volleyed just wide. On 15 minutes Ross Mills did well to win the ball wide by the halfway line and launched the ball into the path of Steve Russell, but the keeper was able to get his body behind his first time shot.

Against the run of play Swanage took the league on 19 minutes after Borough lost the ball in midfield and a quick forward pass picked out Anthony Warrington who took his time to place a low shot past Doug Shear.

The Swans cam close to doubling their lead three minutes later, but Sean Hebdon reacted quickly to block a close range shot from Richard Sands.

Borough however drew level on 32 minutes courtesy of a trademark free kick from Paul Harding who placed the ball in the top left hand corner from just outside the area to leave Taylor no chance. The Swans though finished the half stronger and Shear did well to palm away a Warrington drive from 20 yards out.

Half Time 1-1

Two minutes after the break Borough were denied the lead when a fierce shot from Andy Barham cannoned off the post. Harrop saw a shot from the corner of the area go just wide for Swans, but Borough were carving out the better chances and on 60 minutes Harding fed Russell down the right and the Hornets winger saw his low shot flash just the wrong side of the far post.

But for the second time Borough were punished against the run of play, as on 66 minutes the Hornets defence failed to intercept a Swans clearance an the ball fell to Warrington in space on the left who tucked a low shot past Shear.

Borough though were back on level terms six minutes later when Harding sent Dillon Hooper into space and he got the the area before cutting inside a defender and dispatching a low shot into the bottom right hand corner. And Hooper found space again three minutes later but his first time shot dipped just over.

On 82 minutes Shear kept Borough in the game with a fine double save following a goal mouth scramble and deep in injury time the Hornets nearly snatched a victory when Harding ghosted into the area before squaring to Ollie Carvell whose shot was athletically diverted wide by Taylor.

Full Time 2-2

With both teams tiring, extra time saw chances at both ends on 96 minutes Hooper shot over after being sent clear by Russell, while at the other end Sands volleyed just the wrong side of the post. Swanage though broke the deadlock on 101 minutes with Harrop's flag kick from the right curling in at the far post and Shear kept Borough in the game three minutes later to deny Lee Turner.

Borough though did get the chance to send the tie to a replay early in the second period when a Hooper shot his a defenders hand in the area and although Harding's penalty was low into the bottom right hand corner, Taylor got across to divert the ball wide and sent his club through to the semi-final.
