Borough Scorers: James Stickland 6, 75; Andy Barham 14; Ricky Mee 84.

Borough maintained their unbeaten start to the season in an entertaining fixture as Westlands clawed back a two goal deficit before half-time, but two goals in the final fifteen minutes secured all three points for the Hornets.

Borough took the lead after only 6 minutes when James Stickland latched on to a poor back pass before lifting the ball over the advancing Gary Noon in the home goal to record his first goal for the Hornets.

Stickland continued to cause problems for the home defence and on 14 minutes a strong run down the right saw him brought down and Paul Harding floated in the resulting free-kick which Andy Barham converted with a strong header from the edge of the area.

Two minutes later Stickland again found space this time down the left before a deep cross picked up a run from Paul Getley whose first time shot went just over. However Sports carved out a chance almost immediately as a left wing cross fell to Ian Harris unmarked in front of goal but his header was straight at Borough keeper Paul Hubbard.

However Westlands pulled a goal back on 20 minutes when another cross from the left was met by a home forward at the near post and although Hubbard did well to block the resulting shot, the loose ball fell kindly to Harris to tuck home.

Noon kept his side within touching distance of the Hornets as he denied Stickland after the Borough striker was sent through by Harding, and his intervention was rewarded on 37 minutes as a quick clearance from defence picked out Tom Ovenden clear on the left who cut inside before finishing impressively with a low shot past Hubbard.

Westland finished the stronger before the break with Ovenden's shot on the turn going just over and Hubbard made another fine block to deny Harris.

Half Time 2-2

Ricky Mee replaced Keith Middleton early in the second half and made an immediate impact, breaking down the right before turning the ball back to Stickland but a home defender got in quickly to block the shot.

For both sides the fluid movement of the first half was replaced by a midfield battle but Mee again came close for Borough on 61 minutes after receiving the ball on the edge of the area with his back to goal he turned sharply and got past his defender but his shot went the wrong side of the upright.

Borough had a let-off on 69 minutes when they lost the ball in midfield and a quick forward pass saw four home strikers against two defenders but Westland failed to capatilise and the final shot went wide.

It was the Hornets though who restored their lead 15 minutes from time as a superbly weighted forward pass from Steve Russell put Stickland through on goal and he coolly placed the ball past Noon. And on 84 minutes Borough sealed their first victory at Alvington Lane as a through ball from Barham was deflected by a defender into the path of Mee who ran through from the edge of the centre circle before tucking the ball home.
