Dorset Premier League
Saturday 18th August 2007

Borough opened the season with a home victory against the Royals, with the Hornets playing some excellent football in the first half to go into the break three goals up, but they allowed our opponents back into game after the break before holding out to end a run of five league games without a win, carried over from last season.

Borough settled quickly from kick-off and Lee Thomas was unlucky to be judged off side in the 4th minute after being put through. Moments later Ross Mills came close as he just failed to connect to a Lee Diaper corner.

However it wasn't log before the Hornets opened the scoring in bizarre fashion when the visiting keeper failed to hold a Shane Duggan free kick from over 40 yards out.

The Royals first real threat came on 33 minutes when a free kick from inside in the Borough half, was launched into the area, forcing the home defence to scramble the ball clear.

Back came Borough and they doubled their lead on 36 minutes when Jamie Holland charged down a clearance from the visiting keeper and was qiuckest to react to slot home the loose ball from a tight angle.

Blandford though began to make in-roads into the Borough half with series of attacks, but were undone following a corner, when a quick clearance from Steve Russell saw Thomas chase the ball down and sprint clear of the static blandford defence before calmly slotting home.

Half Time 3-0

Borough started the second half on the attack and looked to be controlling the game until on 57 minutes a needless free kick was conceded in their own half, which was whipped into the area ball and John Bates connected to head the ball into his own net.

The goal visibly deflated Borough allowing a rejuvenated Blandford to take the game to their hosts and the crossbar came to the home teams defence on 68 minutes. However two minutes Borough conceeded a needless penalty and Dan Vater stepped up to slot the spot kick down the middle.

Borough looked rattled but slowly recovered their composure and in the 78th minute a Duggan header was cleared of the line following a corner. However the Hornets elected to play it safe in the final minutes, settling to keep possession in the corners and allow the clock to run down.
