Dorset Premier League
Tuesday 22nd April 2008

Borough continued their poor recent form at Merley Park as two second half goals saw Sports pick up only their third home victory of the season leaving the Hornets to rue the lack of a finishing touch during extended periods of play when they dominated possession.

Cobham created the first chance on three minutes when they broke down the right, forcing Doug Shear to make a scrambling save. Within a minute though Borough came close after a deep cross from the left by Kieran Campbell picked out Mariusz Iglewski who controlled the ball well with his chest but his final shot went wide.

Further Borough pressure on 13 minutes saw a good interchange between Andy Barham and Campbell on the edge of the area before the ball was slipped inside to Ross Edwards who was denied by a well timed tackle. Three minutes later a Paul Honeybun free kick from 25 yards out went narrowly wide.

Borough continued to dominate with Campbell putting a header just over, but Cobham were still dangerous on the break and on 23 minutes a home forward found himself through on goal, but he shot over. However within a minute Campbell found himself one on one against the home keeper, but the final shot cannoned off the gloveman's legs.

With Borough pushing forward in numbers they were caught on the break on 35 minutes and Rimmell Williams did well to deny a quick Cobham counter attack with a well timed tackle. Five minutes later another Borough chance saw Honeybun sent down the right, but his shot from a tight angle cleared the bar.

Half Time 0-0

Borough continued to push forward after the break, but with the slope in their favour Cobham looked more dangerous on the break and on 48 minutes a home forward beat the offside trap but his cross from the right eluded two home forwards before being cleared to safety.

Despite continuing to take maintain the initiative the Hornets were restricted to a Williams drive from outside the area which went wide, but against the run of play they found themselves a goal behind on 70 minutes when a Borough corner was cleared by the home defence into the path of a Cobham forward who ran through to take the ball past Shear and convert.

Borough made a triple substitution as they looked to find a way back into the game and had a penalty shout turned down after Edwards went over in the area, but they continued to struggle to get a clear shot on goal and after two further scares at the other end when Shear made two fine saves, Cobham doubled the lead two minutes from time when the referee spotted a handball in the area and the resulting penalty was slotted home.
