Dorset Premier League
Saturday 16th February 2008

New Borough manager Paul Harding was unable to conjure up a positive result in his first game in charge and the Hornets poor run at home extended to five games without a win, as a 39th minute Ollie Hepworth penalty separated the sides in a scrappy encounter at Turlin Moor.

Borough could have taken the lead inside the first minute as Lee Diaper got down the right and sent a low cross into the area which picked out Kieran Mulvey in front of goal, but his first time shot was well blocked by Loader in the Cranes goal.

Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium but Borough came close again on 15 minutes when Diaper got his head to a Harding left wing corner at the near post but the ball went just over, and Diaper also saw a long range effort go narrowly wide four minutes later.

Cranborne also had a couple of half chances the first a Hepworth shot across goal which went wide while Rimmell Williams did well to get across and block a shot after the Cranes broke down the left. On 34 minutes a cross field run saw Hepworth stretch the Borough defence but his final shot sailed over.

The Cranes took the lead on the 39th minute from the penalty spot after a high ball into the Borough hand struck a defenders hand and Hepworth send Elliott Broome the wrong way to break the deadlock.

Half time 0-1

Within a minute of the restart Hepworth came close to doubling the lead for the Cranes when he found space down the left, but his low shot went narrowly wide of the far post. Two minutes later Mulvey had a chance for Borough with a close range effort from tight angle, but his shot flashed across the goal mouth.

Further pressure from Borough saw Mulvey break down the left on 52 minutes and Kieran Campbell got his head to the resulting cross but was unable to steer the ball goalwards, while four minutes later Diaper lifted a free kick from the edge of the area over the Cranborne defence and Campbell latched on with a volley which went just wide.

Cranborne however were still dangerous on the break and a quick ball forward sent James Antell through but his shot was off target. On 71 minutes Borough played probably their best passing move of the game which ended with a chance for Campbell which cleared the bar.

The Cranes thought they had sealed victory on 77 minutes when Broome could only parry a long range effort and Toby Lee was on hand to tuck home the rebound, but after first being awarded the goal, the decision was overturned for an offside.

This let-off spurred Borough on in the final minutes and after a Diaper free kick cannoned off the wall the loose ball was played back into the area where Kenny Strong got in a close range shot which went over, while in injury time a low free kick from Mulvey saw the ball hacked away for a corner by a visiting defender leaving Cranborne to hold on for their first victory at Turlin Moor.
