Dorset Premier League
Saturday 29th March 2008

In another fixture impacted by the elements, Borough were unable to capitalise on their first half domination, but despite taking the lead early in the second half the Hammers battled back into the game back to deservedly draw level and although the Hornets finished the game on top, they were unable to conjure up a winning goal.

With the wind in their favour, Borough made a bright start and Honeybun forced a save from the home keeper on 5 minutes with a close range effort from a tight angle which was deflected wide. Further Borough pressure saw Steve Moore pick up the ball from a throw in and shot narrowly wide from 25 yards out.

On 20 minutes a Borough corner resulted in a goal mouth scramble and the ball was cleared only as far as Honeybun just inside the area, but his shot blazed over. The Hammers continued to be pushed back as the half progressed, but they defended resolutely to restrict the Hornets chances but on 32 minutes Honeybun benefitted from a poor clearance to drive a first time shot just the wrong side of the upright.

It was late in the half before Elliott Broome was forced to make a save as he blocked a shot with his legs and later did well to punch away a free kick in a packed penalty area.

Half Time 0-0

Borough continued to pressure after the break and took the lead on 49 minutes after Ross Edwards was upended in the area and Honeybun stepped up to convert the spot kick. Two minutes later Honeybun broke through on the right but his shot was blocked by the home keeper.

However Hamworthy began to push Borough back and on 58 minutes Middleton carved out space for a shot which Broome did well to collect, but a minute later the Hammers drew level as a free kick picked out Darrell Williams who deftly lobbed the advancing Broome from the edge of the area.

Borough had the ball in the back of the net on 67 minutes when Rimmell Williams was adjudged offside as he converted the rebound after the home keeper could only block a Honeybun free kick.

A double substitution from the Hornets, bringing on Callum McLeod and Kieran Mulvey gave the visitors a boost and on 81 minutes a good cross field pass from Mulvey picked out Dan Young who made space for a blistering shot which came off the bar and goal line before bouncing to safety and Borough were denied again five minutes from full time, when a right wing corner from Mulvey appeared to have crossed the line before being cleared but the goal was not awarded and Borough had to settle for a draw.
