Dorset Premier League
Monday 24th March 2008

In an entertaining encounter at Gaunts Common, Borough were undone by two Ross Mills goals from set pieces, but with Dan Young pulling a goal back 15 minutes from full time, The Hornets were in the hunt for a point up until the final whistle.

Borough had the best of the opening exchanges playing down the slope and put the ball in the back of the net after three minutes when Ross Edwards powered home a right wing corner, but is was disallowed for a push in the area. Three minutes later Young broke clear down the left but his final shot went the wrong side of the far post, while on 9 minutes Edwards took a quick free kick from the edge of the area but the home keeper got across quickly to palm the ball over the bar.

However Borough were dealt a blow on 16 minutes when Adam Watson who had looked impressive on the right had to be carried off after he was the victim of a late challenge and within a minute the Hornets found themselves a goal down when Dale Burton could only parry a far post header from a right wing corner and Ross Mills was on hand to bury the loose ball.

Young came close to putting Borough level on 21 minutes with a curling shot which was tipped over the bar and from the resulting corner Edwards headed narrowly wide, while almost immediately Kieran Campbell and Steve Moore combined well allowing Moore a shot on goal from a tight angle which the home keeper diverted past the post.

Kieran Mulvey also forced a scrambling save from the home keeper on 26 minutes, but in the last 15 minutes of the half Holt began to gain the upper hand and on 33 minutes Rimmell Williams was forced to make a good block on the line while three minutes later Burton did well to palm away a curling cross.

Further Holt pressure in the final minutes of the half saw a scramble in the Borough area with Burton on hand to deny a close range effort and from the resulting corner the Hornet's keeper got across quickly to make another fine save. And when Burton was beaten by a right wing shot from a tight angle, the ball came back off of the far post.

Half Time 1-0

With the slope in their favour after the break, Holt continued on the offensive and they doubled their lead on 53 minutes when Mills arrived unmarked to head home a corner from the right. However as the half progressed Borough began to make inroads and on 65 minutes a quick passing move sent Campbell through in front of goal, but he was unable to maintain his balance and the shot went wide.

Paul Harding made a double substitution bringing on Callum McLeod and debutante Martin Salte with just over 20 minutes remaining and Salte made a strong run forward 76 minutes before getting in a shot from 20 yards out which went narrowly wide, while a minute later Moore saw a low drive sliced on the line by a defender before coming out off of the post.

However Borough deservedly pulled a goal back on 79 minutes when a free kick picked out Young, whose low drive beat the home keeper, just inside the right hand post. Holt though had a chance to make the game safe on 85 minutes when Mills broke through but he put his final shot wide.

And deep in injury time Borough nearly made Holt pay for that miss when McLeod carved out some space wide on the left before centring to Young inside the area, but his first time shot went wide.
