Premier League Borough lost their unbeaten home record in the DPL, going down 2-0 to rivals Holt United on a bitterly cold afternoon at Turlin Moor. The first half was an exciting affair with numerous chances at both ends, but neither team could break the deadlock. However Holt scored twice within fifteen minutes of the restart and Borough could not raise their game to get back on terms. Chivers had a chance for Holt in the first minute but his lob over the advancing Robbins cleared the bar. Diaper then put Thomas through for Borough, but the striker was just offside. Thomas again broke though but after rounding Holt keeper Martin he took the ball too wide and could not turn the ball in from a tight angle. Henshall replied on 10 minutes for Holt with a header just over and then the lively Thomas had another chance but his shot from wide on the left went across the face of the goal. Another chance fell to Henshall on 25 minutes from a corner, but the Holt defenders header was again off target. At the other end Thomas and Diaper combined to create a chance but Martin was alert to save. The referee was also busy with his notebook as the players frustrations grew, although the game was generally played in a good spirit. Half Time 0-0 Holt started the stronger in the second half a forced a number of corners. On 55 minutes Whites corner kick from the right was punched away by Robbins, but the ball was returned into the box and Chivers forced the ball home from close range. Worse was to follow for the Hornets as two minutes later Mills headed on for Simon Edwards to run through and pick his spot past Robbins. Holt were now on top and Robbins was forced into action a number of times to keep his side in the game. Borough substitutions were made and chances fell to Bates and Dykes but the Holt defence held firm to take all three points and take second spot from Borough. |
