Dorset Premier League Cup - Group A
Saturday 27th October 2007

Following the first team’s poor performance at Wincanton the previous Saturday, Jason decided to send his first team players to Shaftesbury to fulfil the Dorset Reserve Team fixture in order to mix things up and gain a positive response from them all. This also gave a well deserved chance to some of the reserve players to prove themselves against the league leaders.

Although it was always going to be an uphill struggle Borough did very well to hold Portland to a single goal lead for an hour before the margin was widened in the closing third of the game, but the Hornets still acquitted themselves well.

Ross Doidge opened the scoring for the visitors on 20 minutes when he latched on to a through ball by former Dorchester Town defender Michael Walker controlling the ball with his chest before firing a powerful shot past Doug Shear.

Despite further Portland chances Borough held out until 60 minutes when Matt White came off the bench and made an instant impact by grabbing his side's second with a strong header. Portland then sealed victory from the penalty spot after Callum Ross-Jennins was upended in the area and Doidge stepped up to complete his brace.

Howover Dall can be very proud of his boys who, on the day gave everything that they were asked, and with a bit more belief, especially at the start of the second half, when the first 15 minutes saw Borough take the game to their visitors, things may have been different.

Meanwhile at Shaftesbury, Borough chalked up a 5-0 victory, with Chris Squire scoring a brace and one goal each for Matt Morris, Scott Bedward and Scott Hunter.
