Dorset Premier League
Saturday 15th September 2007

Borough made it six games out of six unbeaten and moved back to the top of the table after a convincing victory against their near neighbours. Lee Thomas returned to the side after suspension while Wayne Robbins was back between the sticks after recovering from an operation and with Shane Duggan injured, Kenny Strong stepped into the centre of defence.

The first clear chance fell to Borough on eight minutes after Ross Mills got his head to a long throw from Scott Bedward, but the ball dropped wide. Borough had the ball in the net five minutes later when a Mills forward pass opened up the visiting defence and sent Thomas clear on goal, but after converting with a powerful drive, the game was pulled back for offside decision.

Despite being under pressure, Sturminster were still dangerous on the break and on 15 minutes a visiting forward had a clear run on goal, but Dan Young and Rimmel Williams recovered quickly to clear the danger.

On 20 minutes a right wing cross from Bedward picked out Thomas in the area, but he hooked his shot wide. Three minutes later a Mills headed flick on sent Thomas through on goal, but he elected to pass across the area to Bedward rather than shoot and a visiting defender got back to block.

However Borough's superiority finally saw them take the lead on 32 minutes when Bedward battled his way down the right, beating a defender before sending a low centre across goal and Thomas arrived at the far post to steer the ball home.

Borough came close to doubling the lead four minutes later when Andy Barham whipped in a free kick from wide on the left and Strong just failed to connect from 3 yards out. In the final minute though Stur were awarded a free kick on the right and the resulting ball onto the area was headed just over.

Half Time 1-0

Following the break, Stur had their best period of the game and they forced Borough to defend in numbers, but as the half progressed Borough pushed forward again and a low shot from Steve Russell went narrowly wide, while Darren Rudd made a strong run forward before slipping the ball to Thomas, but his shot was off target.

Borough though increased their lead from the penalty spot on 60 minutes after Mills was tripped as he made a run into the area and he stepped himself to send former Borough keeper Paul Maitland the wrong way.

Five minutes later Stur had a let off when Rudd mis-queued a shot in front of goal after being fed by Thomas. The Hornets still had some work to do at the back and Wayne Robbins forced his way through a sea of bodies to punch clear a corner on 66 minutes.

But Borough put the result beyond doubt on 69 minutes when Bedward made a strong solo run into the area before slipping the ball past the advancing Maitland.

Thomas completed the scoring on 73 minutes when a tussle with the visitor's central defenders saw him win the ball before taking it wide of Maitland and converting from a tight angle.
