Dorset Premier League
Saturday 22nd March 2008

With the fixture dominated by a fierce wind blowing down the pitch, Borough took advantage to score three goals in the last six minutes and secure a double against the Swans, repeating the same scoreline as at Days Park, but as in the reverse fixture the margin of victory flattered the Hornets as the visitors matched their opponents for much of the game.

With the wind against them in the first half, Borough were forced to defend for the majority of the period as the Swans took every opportunity to launch the ball forward and pressure the home back line. The Swans first chance came on nine minutes as Rimmell Williams was forced to clear off the line direct from an in swinging corner and on 17 minutes Dale Burton did well to turn a long range effort past the post.

Two minutes later Burton was in action again, diverting a shot wide after a forward broke through from the left and he was also on hand to tip the resulting corner off the bar. Borough were forced to keep the ball on the ground to make any headway against the conditions and their best chance of the half came on 37 minutes when Kieran Campbell made a battling run into the visitors area, but a defender got across to deny the final shot. Borough finished he half on he back foot but considering the conditions were happy to complete turn around without conceding.

Half time 0-0

If Borough were expecting to take the initiative after the break, they were shocked within two minutes of the restart when Swanage showed how to play against the wind as a good passing move saw them break clear down the left and although Burton did well to block the initial shot Richard Sands was on hand to bundle home the loose ball. On 50 minutes, Swanage nearly doubled their lead when a low cross from the right was met by Lee James but Burton was equal to the shot.

Borough brought on Kieran Mulvy and Adam Watson after an hour and the switch almost brought immediate dividends when a testing long range free kick from Mulvey forced visiting keeper Jimmy Hollywood to divert the ball over the bar and on 66 minutes Ken Strong also tested the keeper after carving out some space for a shot inside the area.

The sustained pressure from the Hornets saw them finally draw level on 68 minutes when Watson battled past a defender down the right before centering into the area and Mulvey helped the ball on to Campbell who drove a low shot past Hollywood.

Borough continued to control the game and on 82 minutes Callum McLeod saw a shot deflected wide after being sent through by Andy Barham, but the Hornets took the lead two minutes later when a corner was cleared only as far as Williams just inside the area who picked his spot to convert with a low drive.

With three minutes remaining, Watson made the game safe for the Hornets as he won the chase for a high forward pass against two defenders and with his first touch lifted the ball over the advancing Hollywood. And a minute later Wstson became provider after cutting in from the right he unselfishly squared the ball to Mulvey to steer it home at the far post.
