Borough produced a spirited fight back after finding themselves three goals down against the League Champions in 40 minutes first half minutes, but despite clawing two goals back, there were unable to produce a final breakthrough to earn a share of the points at Turlin Moor.

Borough started brightly and after only two minutes Lee Diaper got in a snap shot from wide on the right which Gary Noone did well to palm away.

Westlands however saw a shot cannon off the bar on 8 minutes after Borough failed to successfully clear the ball in their area. And it was Sports who took the lead two minutes later when Mike Rousell ran through into space down the right and with Wayne Robbins sprinting out to narrow the angle the ball was lifted over the Borough keeper and Ormrod was on hand to steer it into an empty net.

Borough came straight back and Diaper whipped in a low cross from the right which picked out Jamie Holland five yards out but under pressure from a visiting defender the final shot cleared the bar. On 23 minutes Diaper dumped a defender on his backside as he cut in from the right before sending in a dipping shot from 30 yards out, which clipped the bar on its way over.

However within a minute Borough were two down when Rousell again found space down the right before cutting inside picking his spot past Robbins from the edge of the area.

On 27 minutes Rousell again broke clear but this time Robbins stood his ground well to smother the ball while for Borough Rimmell Williams saw a shot from a corner diverted past the post by Noone.

Westlands increased their lead further on 40 minutes when Rousell went down in the area under a challenge from Cobb and stepped up himself to convert the resulting penalty.

Borough though gave themselves a lifeline from the penalty spot a minute before the break, with Holland doing the honours after earning the spot kick after being bundled over as he made a strong run into the area.

Half time 1-3

The visitors put Borough under the cosh early in the second half with Rousell on 53 minutes latching onto a poor back pass, but Robbins forced him wide and his final shot hit the side netting while Smith also saw a long range shot go narrowly wide.

As the half progressed Borough began to make in roads and on 66 minutes Diaper drove in a free kick from a central location which just cleared the bar. On 73 minutes a good Borough passing move resulted in the ball being fed through to Holland, who got half a yard on the visiting defence, but his final shot went over, while a minute later Kieran Campbell laid the ball back to Diaper, whose first time shot from 20 yards out was well blocked by Noone.

However within a minute Westlands had a chance to seal victory when Rousell found himself clear through on goal, but he elected to knock the ball square to a team mate, giving the home defence time to recover and the final shot went wide.

The Hornets improved second half performance was finally rewarded on 74 minutes when Kieran Campbell lifted a cross field pass into the path of Diaper on the left, who cut inside on the edge of the area before unleashing a stunning drive into the top right hand corner.

With time running out Borough pushed forward looking to secure a draw, but Westlands defended in numbers and did enough to ensure they held on for victory.
